There aren’t many choices near the Botanic Gardens in Montreal, so instead of going somewhere else, we settle for a restaurant in the gardens. It is more like a little cafeteria, and bagel is on the menu among other boring sandwiches. I did not know the difference between Montreal-style and New York-style bagels, and I’m unashamed to say that even here, the bagel taste better than back home. I never understand the craze over NY bagels, but I can relate to this. They are softer, sweeter, and from what I heard, always wood-fired. Quebecois obsession over smoked salmon is evident here – I would have opted for an egg and cheese bagel.
Still, this is amazing. I’m going to declare, after one bagel, that the Montreal version is the best bagel.
